Although yours appears to be connected to the adapter without any problems, I’ve experienced some driver problems with specific adapters. Does the DLC have electricity? To confirm, check the power outlet fuse.

Both cars have power, which is what has me so stumped.

A Ford fusion. I want to say 2016 but may be wrong

A Fusion is new enough that it should not have been an issue. That suggests either a driver compatibility problem or that you might have a knockoff V adapter.
I see it’s one of the approved options for Forscan, but honestly, I just bit the bullet and got an OBDLink to avoid any hassles. The only time I’ve encountered issues is with some of the odd delete tunes.

I have had issues with my adapter on certain vehicles too. I usually keep trying, adjusting the adapter position slightly. Sometimes it just takes a bit of patience.
