Upgrading a 7.3 for More Power—Turbo and Injectors?

I’m swapping out my 7.3 engine and aiming to get more horsepower. Has anyone upgraded the turbo and injectors? What all needs to be done, and where did you buy your parts?

Nope, no one’s ever tried this before! /s

Hope he doesn’t google it and find out it’s been done already!

I went with a KC 300 stage 2 turbo, 63/73 with a .84 housing and ebpv delete pedestal. Bellowed up pipes, Unlimited Diesel 205/30 injectors, and a stage 2 Atlas HPOP. Tuned with Jellibuilt. Truck runs awesome! Swapped my old engine at 324,500 miles for a newer one with 138,000 miles—really happy with it!

I’m running Full Force 180/30 injectors, a Riff Raff stainless up-pipe kit, and a KC turbo wicked wheel balanced assembly with a turbo rebuild kit. Also got the Hydra chip with KC tunes, all from KC Turbos. Makes my F350 a beast—it hauls anything! I have to feather the shift points, but it’s still a monster. Roosevelt at Power Hungry did the work, and it’s a game changer.

We’ve done a few kits from Full Force Diesel, but only for 99-03 7.3s. Since you didn’t mention the year, I can’t say for sure if that will work for you.

It’s a 2000 F250.

Check out KC Turbos’ site—they sell kits for different power levels. Avoid the TS 6-position tuner, though. For off-the-shelf tuning, Hydra’s the way to go.

Banks has full upgrade kits if you want an all-in-one package.

Here’s what I’d recommend:

  • Bellowed up pipes (I like Riff Raff)
  • Oil crossover line
  • KC turbo
  • AC code or Full Force injectors for single shots (depends on if your engine is new or not)
  • Hydra for tuning, Jelibuilt for custom tunes

Banks parts are usually junk in my opinion, but I’ve done these exact mods on multiple trucks, and it’s a good balance of power and reliability. Didn’t list specific injector sizes or turbo since it depends on your goals and truck year. Just get a KC Jet Fire turbo for reliability.
