Loose wire near IPR valve on 6.0 Powerstroke... What’s going on?

There’s a ground wire that connects to the back intake stud on the driver’s side, that’s probably what you’re looking at.

How does that work exactly? I’m not very good with electrical stuff.

It looks like the ground wire that connects to the intake area near there.

That’s the injector harness ground. I just attach mine to the firewall to keep it out of the way. If you get an Odawg’s intake, you’ll need to move it anyway.

Could this be the cause of my crank-no-start issue?

@Hal
It’s probably not the issue, since there’s another ground on the FICM circuit. Do you have a way to check your oil pressure or see the IPR percentage?

I don’t have anything to check that, but the IPR has been causing a hot start issue, so I’m replacing it. But maybe this wire is part of the problem.

@Hal
If you’re having hot start issues, you might want to check the standpipes for a HPO leak. Take a look at the IPR screen and maybe get a ScanGauge II to see what the IPR’s doing. The IPR doesn’t often fail unless it’s a cheap replacement.

@Bao
When I had my turbo replaced a few thousand miles ago, I had the shop check my HPO pressures, and they said everything looked fine. I think the IPR is original.

It’s possible that the IPR screen is clogged with crud. What year is your truck? I’d suspect the standpipe O-ring before the IPR unless a monitor shows that the IPR is wide open.

(Edited for autocorrect error)

@Bao
It’s an ’05. I bought a rebuild kit with the screen and O-rings. Just going to try that before I spend $300 on a new IPR.

It’s just a ground wire. Don’t worry about it. I cut them off all the time.

If you’re having a crank-no-start issue, what symptoms are you seeing?

It stalled going up a hill. I replaced the ICP earlier this year and also the FICM. I was trying to remove the IPR valve when I noticed this wire.

Is it safe to just cut the ground wire?

@Hal
That ground wire doesn’t do much. Don’t stress over it.

Have you checked if you have more than 1/4 tank of fuel? Have you checked the fuel pressure? What’s the oil level like?

All my fluids are good, and I’ve got just under half a tank. I can’t really test the fuel pressure, but it primes when I turn the ignition on.
