Replaced or tested almost everything recently on my 7.3 except the HPOP and main wiring harness. The idle has been fluctuating periodically, mostly when it’s not fully warmed up, and I’m seeing intermittent puffs of thick black smoke under light acceleration and sometimes white smoke when it’s cold. Anyone experienced similar symptoms with the HPOP? Engine still makes good power, just trying to figure this out.
Try checking your ICP sensor and IPR, make sure the batteries are well-connected and the oil level is good.
Have you cleaned or replaced the EBPS or tube?

Yes, it’s clear, but I don’t have an EBPV.

Even without the EBPV, the sensor still needs a clean read. Can you use a scanner to confirm?
@Kendall
I’ve got Forscan, no codes for it. Any specific values I should look for?

Start it up, monitor the sensors, and post screenshots of any peaks and dips. That’ll give us a better idea.
@Kendall
It’s hit-or-miss when it happens. I was able to catch it on video once, might try again with Forscan running.

Congrats on the Forscan, but what does that have to do with this?

“The god damn Germans got nothing to do with it!”
I’ve gone through the entire wiring harness. Replaced the ICP sensor from Ford and swapped out the IPR recently. Anyone have a good video link or recommendation?

Check the nut on the IPR and make sure it’s hand-tight.
@Hart
Checked it, and it’s tight.
Unplug the ICP and check for any oil in the connection.

No oil found.

@Cameron
No offense, but I’m not a fan of that guy.

He’s a bit over the top, but some of his tips are good.

He just gathers info online and pads the video with ads. Stuff he covers is common knowledge but doesn’t always make it right. Plus, he’s constantly pushing the adrenaline HPOP.
If the cam position sensor is acting up, you should see if the tach moves while cranking. Do you have a spare CPS to swap in and test?
