I tried that, but it just caught fire for some reason. 
By breather tube, do you mean the carbon canister line? I cut mine out of my SUV and added an inline filter to avoid this exact problem.
Diesel trucks don’t have evap canisters.
Ah, that makes sense now. Probably why my F-250 never had that issue. Lol, my bad.
