Just got my hands on a 2011 F250 with the 6.7 Powerstroke and 256k miles. This is my first diesel truck, and I’m excited to make it last another 250k miles. I’ve already started researching maintenance and upgrades but wanted to ask the group for advice.
Here’s what I’m thinking so far:
Replace all filters and fluids.
Inspect suspension, brakes, and tires.
Look into a Disaster Prevention Kit for the CP4 fuel pump.
Consider replacing the turbo since it’s nearing the typical failure point, though it’s running fine now.
What else should I do to keep this beast running strong? Appreciate any tips, especially for common issues and must-have upgrades.
If it made it to 250k and still runs well, the previous owner probably took good care of it. For the suspension, check the front hubs, axle seals, and ball joints regularly. Neglecting these can lead to serious problems, including the infamous death wobble. Ford’s suspension is tough, but it’s not immune.
Also, watch out for CCV issues on the 6.7 Powerstroke. I’ve seen one with blowby, so keep an eye on that. Use the exhaust brake often and let the truck idle before shutting it off to protect the turbo.
Have a trusted shop inspect the suspension; it might need a refresh. Early 6.7 models (pre-2015) had turbo issues due to bearing failures, and the 2015+ turbo is a common upgrade.
Change fuel filters every 10k miles and use the Ford-recommended fuel additive. The CP4 failures are often linked to poor fuel quality, so good maintenance is key.
Drain and check all fluids, scan for fault codes, and find a good mechanic. The 6.7 is a strong engine, but tuning and neglect can hurt it.

Do NOT upgrade to the 2015+ turbo unless you’re deleted. I made that mistake and could never get the emissions system to work properly. The emissions-on tune is tricky.
