Cranked it once, relocated it, and then it wouldn’t start when I changed my clothing. When I insert my key and turn on this top left fuse, it starts to buzz and tick. After I take it out, it continues to tick and buzz.
I should note that even though I accidentally switched the positions of the battery terminals on the passenger side last night, creating a large sparky mess and several arc marks, the car started and ran perfectly today.
After removing the fuse, the noise stopped. Did I damage my fuse panel?
That doesn’t really matter, or at least I couldn’t say for sure.
You will need to check every fuse and relay.
I am just a backyard mechanic, so I don’t have a professional method for checking everything. I would assume nothing worked after the reverse polarity incident and go from there. Definitely Google around, but I would start by checking all the fuses, links, and anything else that might have been fried. There could even be a fuse inside a chip, but I am not certain. Google is your friend here.
We are dealing with the same issue. I will share my findings here later if I figure it out. I know another guy with an '99 who has the same problem as us. We’ll get this sorted.
Your gem module is located in the black box that sits on top of the fuse box, behind it. Depending on the trim, it has one, two, or three plugs connected to it.
