Hello guys, I would like some guidance. This truck, which has 68700 miles on it, just started shifting poorly and bucking forward violently when I put it in gear. When I took the plug out, there was no dip stick in the slot when I had reached underneath the transmission to check the oil. When I called Ford, they informed me that the oil is lifetime and there is no dip stick.
There is an oil leveling plug on the driver’s side near the back of the transmission. With the engine running, use a 10mm hex to remove the plug. If fluid comes out, it’s full, if not, that is where you add more to top it off. However, I doubt that will solve the issue. It’s likely the input shaft seals, and there’s a TSB for that exact problem. Source, 8-year Senior Master Ford Tech with extensive experience rebuilding these 10-speed transmissions.
I am grateful for your assistance, brother.
Not an issue. I could get you fixed if you are in the Triangle region of North Carolina. If not, any dealer with a capable trans tech ought to be able to.
My Ford dealer’s transmission tech won’t allow it go past 60,000.
Lifetime oil in a transmission? I wouldn’t trust that. I would take it to a reliable dealer and let them sort it out.
I have heard that the 6 speed utilizes the same dipstick, does anyone know where I can purchase one?
It lasts the lifetime of the warranty.
