So my truck has 164k miles, and here’s the blow by I’m seeing. People who say the 6.0 smokes like crazy are wrong—these trucks only blow smoke if there’s something wrong internally. This video was taken after driving for an hour.
That’s exactly what I’ve been saying about the 7.3. What you’re seeing is totally normal for any engine. The problem is that too many people here think worn-out trucks are running fine.
Haha, it’s ‘normal’ because people don’t take care of their trucks! At least the 7.3s will keep running for a long time, even with blow by.
Just keep the oil clean and hammer down!!!
You should have seen the blow by on a 6.4 that came into the shop. That thing would launch the oil cap straight into the hood!
That’s nothing to worry about.
Exactly, my point is that I don’t really have any blow by because there’s nothing wrong with my truck. It’s probably thanks to the oil temp staying at 195 degrees.
Mine looks the same, and I’m at 230,000 miles.
My engine vapes too, it’s normal… I can even put a ping pong ball on the oil cap, and it won’t move. My 7.3 only has 125k miles, though, so I’m still in good shape.
My 6.0 has some smoke or vapor when I take off the oil cap, but the cap doesn’t bounce or move when I do the oil cap blow by test. There’s no pressure against my hand either, and nothing’s wrong with my engine.
Same here, just some vapor rising out with no real blow by. I posted this because people say all 6.0s blow, and it’s not always true. When I bought my truck, it was like a steam engine. Turned out to be a small crack in the head, which I found when I added studs. Now it’s running perfectly. Funny thing is, even with the cracked head, the truck ran just fine, so I wouldn’t have known without checking.
Haha, I must be blind because I didn’t even see the vapor in the video! When I bought mine, it was blowing tons of vapor, but after replacing the EGR cooler and oil cooler, the vapor cut way down. It’s always nice to fix something and see real results.
Is this the new trend? Should I go make a blow by video too?
Maybe! I’d love to see it
Haha, maybe I’ll get off my butt and do it this weekend. Seems like everyone’s posting these lately!
That’s totally normal.
Exactly. That’s what I’m trying to show here. Some trucks blow smoke, and people say it’s normal, but it’s really not. Usually, it’s a cracked head or something else, even if the truck seems to be running fine.
Yep, that is 100% normal for a diesel.
That’s not blow by; it’s just diesel vapor burps. Totally normal. Try putting the oil cap on upside down—if it doesn’t get pushed off, you’re good.
It doesn’t get blown off.
