Just don’t confuse that new ‘Allison’ 10-speed with the real Allison. That thing has issues.
@Flann
Glad I held off on getting one. My 68RFE isn’t the best, but at least I can swap in a real Allison when it dies.

Yeah, funny thing is GM and Ford co-developed that 10-speed, but GM is seeing way more problems than Ford. The 6R140 Ford uses is a really solid transmission.
@Flann
Yeah, I’ve heard the Powerstroke guys have way fewer issues with it than the Duramax guys.

My uncle has one, tows a big horse trailer with it all the time, and never complains. And trust me, he’s a complainer.

Sounds like you want a Ford F-650 with the Cummins/Allison setup lol.
At this point, they’re all about the same reliability-wise. What really matters is how they were maintained and what they were used for.
I prefer the Ford 6.7 because the cabin is more spacious (I’m 6’6”) and the midrange power is great for highway passing.
My wife likes GM because the interior feels smaller and more comfortable to her, plus she says it rides better unloaded.
My dad prefers the Cummins because of the low-end grunt and the way it sounds with an exhaust mod.
At the end of the day, pick the one you like driving the most.
They all break. Buy the one you enjoy driving the most.
I think Ford’s 6.7 is the best motor, but Cummins is the easiest to work on, and the trucks cost less.

What makes the Powerstroke the best?

It’s got great torque delivery, makes more power than advertised, early turbo issues got fixed, and it responds really well to tuning.
