I’m looking at getting my first F250, and I’ve been checking out models from 2020 to 2024. While browsing the used market, I’ve noticed something strange—there are a ton of 2022 models with super low mileage for sale near me, like under 50k miles. This doesn’t seem to be the case for other years. Is there something seriously wrong with the 2022 model year that I’m missing? I haven’t been able to find anything online about it.
Could be lease returns? A lot of people turn those in around the 2-year mark.
I got a 2020 6.7 with 43k miles on it, and now it’s close to 70k. No major issues so far except I had to replace the driver’s side mirror because it wouldn’t unfold after being folded in. I’m pretty rough on it too, and it’s still holding up great.
The 2022 models had tons of production delays, and some were delivered way later than usual. For example, I picked mine up almost in November when it normally would’ve been a 2023 model by then.

I ordered my 2022 in February and didn’t get it until February of the following year! By the time it arrived, I had already bought a 2018 with 97k miles because I needed something.
Ford and the dealer price-locked it, though, so I ended up paying $76,500 for a truck that had an $84,500 sticker price thanks to inflation in 2022. I traded it in August of the same year because my situation changed, but I got $74,500 for it with only 9,200 miles on it.
There was a lot of shady stuff with these orders. Dealers were having friends and family order trucks just to flip them for a markup. I had to order mine without things like a fifth-wheel/gooseneck prep, bedliner, and running boards because rumors said adding those options would delay delivery by months.
That 2022 was rock solid, though. I just don’t need an HD diesel anymore, but I miss it.
I bought mine in December last year, and I’ve had zero issues with it so far. Loving the 7.3L engine.
I’m currently looking into replacing the seat cushion on my 2022 Lariat 7.3. The foam on the sides didn’t hold up well. Other than that, no complaints—I just finished towing a 7,500 lb camper for 300 miles, and it handled it like a champ.
@Scout
Check out The Seat Shop. They’ve got good replacement foam that holds up better.
I have a 2022 6.2, and so far, the only issue has been the wiper recall. That took forever to get resolved.

What was the wiper recall about?

It was about defective wiper arms. Here’s a link that explains it: Ford Authority article.
I’m buying a 2022 6.2 fleet lease with 51k miles. Big rental companies like Enterprise sell these every 2-3 years when companies upgrade their fleets. Most of these are executive fleet vehicles, so they’re usually in good shape.
The 2020-2022 trucks were built during Covid, so they’re kind of a mixed bag. Parts shortages meant they were sitting in lots waiting for chips or other components. They introduced the new 10-speed transmissions during this time, too, and those were still being worked on.
My 2020 has had a few problems: a clunky 2/3/4 shift, a faulty DEF injection nozzle, and a failed hydropump. I’ve also found parts on it that weren’t even meant for my truck. Ford probably used whatever they had just to get the trucks out the door.
Be careful with used trucks. Odometers can be rolled back. Always check if the seller certifies the mileage or pull a CarFax to see if there’s any service history showing higher mileage.
My 2021 Lariat (7.3) is running great at just over 40k miles, and it tows my travel trailer without any issues.
