Hey everyone, is it true there are no diesel engine options for the F150 anymore? I’ve been searching and can’t find anything after 2021. I know the F250 and up still have diesels, but I want to confirm before I start looking at other trucks.
Yeah, they stopped making it. The PowerBoost hybrid does everything better anyway.

Exactly. Better mileage, more power, and gas is cheaper.

Totally agree.
Yep, it was discontinued in 2021. It wasn’t a popular choice.
Honestly, none of the half-ton diesels are that great. The Duramax is probably the best of the bunch, but even that one has had some reported issues.
Emission requirements made them expensive and complex. It’s just easier and cheaper to turbo a gas engine, so the diesel F150 didn’t sell well.
Ford dropped it because it wasn’t a good option. Gas engines outperformed it in most areas.

Light-duty diesel trucks just don’t make sense here in the U.S.
They actually do make sense, but no one has made one worth buying yet.
@Jo
Maybe not for you, but if I can get 21 mpg in an F250 diesel, a properly built half-ton diesel should do even better.
@Jo
That’s because they didn’t build it right. A good half-ton diesel could still work if they put the effort into it. Not everyone needs a Super Duty for better MPG.
@Jo
The engines they used weren’t up to par. Plenty of truck buyers were excited to give light-duty diesels a shot, but manufacturers didn’t deliver.
@Jo
They’ve just been using engines built for other markets instead of creating something for this one. Remember when Dodge introduced the 12-valve Cummins? Everyone doubted it at first, but it proved the doubters wrong.
I considered getting one, but between diesel prices and the extra maintenance, it didn’t make sense. Plus, modern diesels aren’t great for short commutes unless you want to deal with DPF issues. The PowerBoost hybrid is a better option overall.
@Joss
The PowerBoost has similar or better MPG in most cases, no DEF system, more torque, and better towing capacity. It’s quieter and works well for both short commutes and long drives. Maintenance is cheaper, too.
I came from a RAM 3500 Cummins and love the PowerBoost, though I wish it had a bigger battery and a bit more payload capacity.
I heard from a longtime diesel tech at my local Ford shop that they might do a limited run in 2025. He’s been with Ford for over 35 years, and I trust what he says. I have a 2018, and he’s the only one who’s worked on it since I bought it.
