I wouldn’t pay that much for a diesel unless you’re able to work on it yourself. Gas engines like the 351 or 300 are probably a better bet. I wanted a diesel so bad that I bought one anyway, though.
That truck looks awesome!
If you’re spending that kind of money and coming from a Ranger, why not go for a half-ton? If the Ranger works for you, a half-ton should be more than enough. They’re newer, almost as capable, and more practical for daily driving. My Expedition, for example, has a 9k towing capacity, while my old 7.3 had 12.5k.
Yeah, not sure, but those trucks do look pretty solid. 10k isn’t too crazy of a price.
I wouldn’t daily drive an OBS 7.3. Sure, the engine is reliable, but everything else around it is almost 30 years old and has over 300k miles. I love mine, but I wouldn’t want it as my everyday ride.
I’d go for the first one all day long. I love working on OBS trucks.
Are both trucks Power Stroke diesels?
Just grab the one that costs $1,234 already!
You can definitely daily them if they’ve been maintained well. In my experience, seeing a K&N filter on one is a big red flag. My truck had one when I bought it, and it looked like it hadn’t been touched in years. When I replaced the intake plenums, the intake manifolds were coated in dirt. If the engine’s strong, doesn’t burn oil, and there’s no blue smoke, you’re probably good. Common issues include oil leaks, fuel leaks, and bad sensors. And factory injectors don’t usually last beyond 200k miles.
