165k miles, one owner, bulletproofed. Tracking down a small leak on the bell housing. Anyone dealt with this kind of issue before?
She’s a beauty.
I have an 06. The rear engine cover cracked and it has been leaking since. I only use it to tow a couple of times a month so I’m in no rush to fix it. Hopefully yours is just an o-ring or something simple.
@Vesper
Dang, I’ve heard bad things about the girdle and rear covers on these. I replaced the EOP sensor, which fixed most of the leak. I think the hot side intercooler boots are causing the remaining leak. It’s not too bad, maybe one drip a week or so.
Congrats, you bought a B.O.A.T.

I sure hope that doesn’t mean “bust out another thousand”

Sorry but you might’ve overpaid. But I’ll give it to you, it definitely looks clean. For the leak near the bell housing, it depends on where you see it start and drip. Have you checked if it’s engine oil or transmission fluid? Could be the rear engine cover, rear main seal, hpop cover, ipr, valve covers, rocker boxes, oil cooler, or the turbo feed/drain tube. You should track it to the highest point.
@Rin
The market is really flooded with 200k+ ones for under 9k in good condition. Right now, you’re getting the most for your money on used trucks. I picked up a pristine maroon 280k ZF6 ext cab 4x4 for 5k this fall. It even came with a binder.
Nice! Good looking truck!
