I used to own a 2019 F250 Platinum but sold it since I wasn’t towing heavy loads anymore. Now I’ve got a 2019 F150 Powerstroke Diesel. I’m excited to see how this truck performs and holds up.
You’re definitely going to surprise some people when you pull up to the diesel pump in an F150.

My wife drives a Volkswagen Beetle Diesel. The looks she gets at the pump are priceless.
@Devon
She even gets yelled at for ‘blocking the diesel pump’ because the station she uses only has two. People are wild.
I didn’t even know the F150 had a diesel option. That’s awesome! Congrats on the new truck.

Thanks! They started offering it in 2018 and stopped around 2021 (I think).

You’re correct. I’ve got the 2018 version, and I love it! You’re going to enjoy yours too. The Platinum trim with the baby Powerstroke is an amazing combo.

Why’d they stop making it?
@Axel
Mainly poor sales. Ford didn’t market it well. They focused on the Ecoboost, which was already well-known. Most buyers didn’t even know the diesel option existed. Plus, with EPA restrictions on diesels, it wasn’t worth their time. Also, people are confused about towing ratings—many thought the Ecoboost was better because it had a higher tow rating, but that’s more about stopping power. The diesel’s torque curve makes it better for actually pulling heavy loads.
@Zola
Makes sense. The sound of that diesel engine must be satisfying, though.
@Zola
That explains a lot. Probably the same reason RAM stopped their 3.0L EcoDiesel.
That’s one sharp truck
Nice! How’s the fuel mileage on it?

It’s rated at 22 MPG city and 30 MPG highway.
I’ve got a 2019 SuperCab Diesel, and I absolutely love it. Enjoy your new ride!
The torque on these trucks is unreal, and the fuel economy is fantastic. You’re going to love it.
I’ve worked on a few of these. Great little engines with crazy highway mileage. Our boss drove a demo and was getting close to 40 MPG. Too bad Ford didn’t market them better—they could’ve sold a lot more.
Nice truck! DEF and fuel filters can be a hassle, though, and diesel is usually more expensive than gas. Still, the diesel’s torque at low RPMs is a big plus.

DEF isn’t a big deal—it’s cheap and doesn’t need topping off often. Diesel costs a little more, but it’s worth it for the better torque curve. The Ecoboost is okay, but it’s not great for towing heavier loads.
