How is buying a used diesel truck?

I’m considering buying a used diesel truck but not sure what to look for. Are there any common issues to watch out for when buying one with high mileage? Any advice on whether it’s worth buying one with 350k miles and putting some work into it?

Imma go with 350k, and load up the parts cannon.

15k is less than 40

This is ideal

Mileage isn’t everything. I’d much rather have a grandpa maintained truck with 200k over a high schooler’s truck with 100k

@Bran
Exactly. My car (not diesel, idk why this forum keeps pushing diesel content) had 144k when I bought it and is around 150k now, after doing an oil change and a sensor replacement (about $90 for the sensor and about $90 for tools and oil) there’s literally nothing wrong. (It had frequent oil change records, just needed another one)

I honestly wouldn’t mind a diesel car just for the fuel efficiency, but I really like my car (06 Honda Accord, 5-speed manual, K24 engine)

@Wilder
All good, those are solid. I have an economy VW diesel, but I like to help out on the old man’s 7.3. It’s a great community for info

Yeah, I’m also in some civic groups because nobody makes groups for Accords, and (in its simplest form) an Accord is just a bigger Civic, and they share most of the same parts. Forum advice can be great for help on certain things

@Wilder
I have an 06 Honda Accord with the 5-speed and the K24. Just crossed 271k miles with only minor maintenance. It burns about a quart of oil every two tanks, and the CEL is on for a catalytic converter code, but everything else works.

@Wesley
That’s really not that bad. Good to know that even in another 100k, I should still be fine, especially considering the market, what I paid, and what I could realistically expect for trade-in value

@Wilder
I did attempt to trade this Accord in back in 2021 and was offered $500. I think if I try to sell private party, I could get anywhere from $1000 to $2500.

I spent $7k on this one. I know it’s kinda a rip-off, but I was desperate for a car, and I wanted something that would last as long as I was driving it

@Wilder
I feel like stick-shift Accords are in a market all their own. The rarity means the deals aren’t as great. $7k seems like a fair price, especially if it was during the COVID madness, and if you feel like you got your money’s worth, then it’s all good.

Says mileage isn’t everything but then quotes mileage twice

I quoted the miles to show that they aren’t everything, my car is relatively high mileage and perfect, that was the point
