Hey everyone, I am looking to buy my first diesel truck and would love to hear your opinions on which year model you prefer. A bit about me, I am 27, a construction supervisor, and I have been driving an F150 for the past 10 years. I remember going with my dad when he bought his 2013 F250 brand new, and after he deleted it about five years ago, I’ve been hooked ever since. I have saved enough to afford a new XLT but would like to keep it around $60k. Do you think it’s better to buy a 2019 and delete it, or go newer and get an extended warranty? I really want a truck that will still be awesome 10 years down the road, like my dad’s.
From experience, I’d recommend against buying a 6.4L. Instead, get a used 7.3L, but make sure the previous owner didn’t abuse it.
It goes without saying that my question is if it is preferable to purchase a 19 and delete or a 22 and preserve my warrantee. For example, what should I fear breaking in the absence of a warranty?
Purchase a Ford vehicle with a 6.4 powerstroke. You will thank your money for using the most dependable option.
I use a 7.3 for my work truck, which I bought for $5,000 with 200,000 miles on it. After replacing the water pump, it ran flawlessly for 40,000 miles. When the O-rings failed, I installed a new set of injectors, which was a costly repair, but it was worth it because the truck earned me enough to cover the expense. The Super Duty 7.3 is the way to go.
I will tell you from experience, don’t buy a 6.4L. Instead, buy a used 7.3L and make sure the previous owner never beat the snot out of it.
What I am trying to figure out is whether it is better to buy a 2019 and delete it, or go for a 2022 and keep the warranty. What potential issues should I be concerned about if I don’t have a warranty?
That is frustrating. I have an '02 with 260,000 miles and spent $8,000 on it. It’s great, I would start with a low offer, but then again, that’s just my style.
That’s awesome, man I would really love a 7.3, but I heard they don’t make new parts for them anymore. I’m just a bit worried about daily reliability, I don’t want to be constantly fixing something.
Vs having a huge payment? No contest for me.
I will pay the remaining amount in cash, as I am only borrowing about $20k. Have had this money saved for a while.
You can get almost all OEM engine parts from O’Reilly, they definitely still make parts for them. Plus, you probably won’t need many parts anyway. The aftermarket support for 7.3s is incredibly extensive too.
The 7.3 is incredibly reliable. The newer 6.7s are also great once deleted, but definitely avoid the 6.0s and 6.4s! I have a 2008 with a 12-valve Cummins swap, but those are tough to find, and the transmission setup for a Cummins swap isn’t ideal. Right now, I am weighing whether to rebuild my blown 5R110 or go for a different transmission.
I wouldn’t mind a 5000 dollar 6.0 they sound like rocket ships
I purchased precisely it earlier this year. Six-speed manual, theft recovery, 91k miles. It sounds great and came with a straight 4" exhaust. For $5k, I was unable to refuse. However, because bedliner had been sprayed on it, the tweakers who took it gave it that murderous appearance. I don’t care if it’s not something that many people want to be seen in.
