Does This Transmission Fluid Look Dirty? 2017 F350

I’ve got a 2017 F350 and was checking the transmission fluid. Took a pic… what do you all think? Does it look dirty, or is this normal?

Kinda looks like my underwear!

In our area, most tranny fluid is clear, but I guess it varies depending on how old it is.

Also depends on what the truck’s been through.

Mercon LV fluid is naturally darker than other types. Don’t flush it! Just drop the pan, change the filter, and add fresh fluid. Do it again in about six months, then every 50-60k miles, especially if you’re towing.

New transmission fluid is a bit thinner compared to the older Mercon V stuff. I’d stick to changing it every 50k to play it safe. This is based on my experience with newer Fords using LV fluid.

Good call. I use Valvoline Max Life synthetic, just as an FYI.

@Blaine
Transmission replacement = $$$, Fluid change = $

Couldn’t agree more :+1:

You’re fine. Not sure about newer trucks, but I change the transmission fluid and filter every 60-75k. I do my manual transmission and differential fluid every 50k too.

Thanks! I got it used at 100k miles, and honestly, I doubt the previous owner did much maintenance based on what I’ve found so far. I’ve got a Nissan pickup that I change every 60k, and it’s still running great with 320k miles on the original tranny. Heard good things about these Ford Super Duty transmissions, but just want to be cautious.

@Rowan
My dad’s got a 2012 F250 6.7, and that thing’s a beast. I had to get an older diesel myself to keep from pushing it too hard. Otherwise, I’d be towing at 80mph using his truck!

Just see a mechanic.

I don’t think you can say that word anymore :sweat_smile::joy::rofl:

Nooooo!

No what? No clean or no dirty?

Looks like you might’ve been a bit rough on it! Take it easy and give it some TLC.

That’s not what I thought it was at first glance!
