This truck was originally bought brand new by my grandfather (RIP). He absolutely pushed it to its limits, and in 2010, he traded it in for an Explorer. The truck was mostly custom. Unfortunately, I never asked him much about it before he passed. I’d really appreciate any information about this model to better understand its history. Thanks in advance!
Looks like it’s from the bullnose generation, which ran from 1980-1986. Earlier ones often had bumperettes, but since this one doesn’t, it might be from later in the range—probably an ’85 or ’86.
I’m pretty sure that’s a 1985. The grille, headlights, swing-lock mirrors, and those funky vinyl body-side moldings all point to that year. The early ’80s was when Ford started making F-series trucks more luxurious for everyday use, not just work.
@Leo
To narrow it down more: since it’s a diesel, it would have to be from 1983-1986. So yeah, 1985 sounds right.
If it’s unmodified, it’s probably an ’85 or ’86.
I had an ’85 that looked just like it.
It’s definitely before 1990 since it has square sealed-beam headlights. In 1990, they switched to plastic housings with projector bulbs.
@Parker
That body style is from 1980-1986.
’91 was the last year with those side mirrors. Looks like it could be an ’88 or ’87, but I’m not an expert on F-250s/350s.

That’s not the right generation. 1987 and later are the bricknose style. This is a bullnose.
Looks like an ’85 to me. Could be wrong, though, but it’s a beauty.
Love these 6.9s. I’m starting to hoard them for eventual restoration and flipping.
I’m going to guess 1982. Are we going to find out the exact year?
