Anyone else having trouble with 7.3 cracking fuel filters?

I have a 2002 F350 that has blown four fuel filters in the past two days—one Motorcraft filter and three generic auto parts filters. The issue always happens at the cap. Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

Maybe it’s a bad batch of fuel bowl caps. I still use the original OEM cap and haven’t had any issues. If you’re looking for something different, try an OEM or maybe a metal replacement cap.

The first one to crack was an OEM, then I tried a Napa, and after that, the two Duralast caps cracked too.

I had the same problem. I got this: Billet fuel bowl cap

Thanks! I’ll order one of those.

Don’t they make metal versions of these now? Maybe someone else has experience with them. I’ve never seen this happen before, though.

Make sure you’re not over-torquing it…

Check the pressure regulator on the return side.

Seems like you might be over-pressuring the housing. Have you checked the fuel pressure?

The solution is probably OEM cap and filter.

Sometimes if it drinks too much at night, without an interim bleed-off, it can build up a lot of pressure by morning. It’s basically like firehose pressure at that point, beyond the design spec.

Don’t use the kids that come with the filter, just stick to OEM.

The first one was OEM, but I still had the same problem.
