The truth I’ve learned while working on these trucks is if you can’t afford the time or money to do it right the first time, you really can’t afford the time or money to do it twice. Call KC Turbo or another well-known company to get your kit. Use your Amazon card on something else.

“Buy once cry once” as they say

I agree with that 100%. Are you aware of any kits on Amazon?

Wrong place to look, my friend.

Well, ended up going with the KC Turbo extreme rebuild kit and a billet compressor wheel.
@Jael
Hell yeah, now we’re talking!
Don’t buy Amazon kits.
Save the Amazon gift card for knick-knacks that don’t matter…

I just put an offer in on a KC Turbos rebuild kit with the upgraded thrust bearing.
@Jael
“Put an offer in”… on eBay? For a rebuild kit? It’s $79 straight from them.

Yeah, but somebody’s trying to resell. One still in the package and I offered $50 for it lol. I still gotta buy a billet compressor wheel.
Most Amazon kits are basically junk eBay kits with Prime shipping.
Ford doesn’t service turbo parts separately for a reason. If your unison ring is sticking, turbo vanes are sticking, or if there’s rust and/or heavy pitting, you’re looking at replacement. You may be able to get away with cleaning it. Whatever you do, don’t waste your money on an Amazon kit.
@Ollie
Thanks for your input, that’s sound logic and I did not. I got the KC Turbos extreme rebuild kit and a billet compressor wheel, all for $180.
I remember I bought that years ago, first turbo rebuild… sounded like a handful of change going through a blender… No bueno, senior.

Thankfully, my neighbor’s a mechanical engineer specialized in turbines. I recruited him, I have the utmost confidence in his mechanical knowledge.
FWIW… I used to work at Borg Warner as a Tech/Test Center Supervisor where we tested all turbos on all engines, including the 6.0. Early 6.0 with the Garrett turbo is easily rebuilt with OEM or Garrett parts. Same for the Borg Warner 2 stage LP/HP stuff, just a bit trickier for install. Invest in manufacturer recommended parts and have shafts and wheels balanced from a reputable shop. Aftermarket is good, but no way has the durability testing for reliability that OEM does.
What area of the country are you in? I had Joplin Turbo Supply in Joplin MO do mine on my 7.3. This was probably 8 years ago and I think I only paid ~$250ish for parts and labor. Great customer support, multi-year/mile warranty, etc. I actually accidentally sucked a rubber boot off of a sensor into my turbo and trashed the wheel and they still rebuilt it for free for me. Highly recommend checking them out.
