Aftermarket pistons for Speed of Air on a 7.3

Legit are SOA Pistons? Any thoughts? Since my 7.3 is currently being disassembled, I am considering purchasing them and would like to know whether anyone believes they are worthwhile.

I am skeptical about the claimed benefits of this design. It seems to me that it’s intentionally made to create hot spots on the pistons in order to burn more fuel. It might be beneficial for more modern engines like the 6.7 Powerstroke or other advanced diesels that have precise, individual adjustments for better control in the combustion chamber.

In contrast, the 7.3 isn’t designed for precision or cleanliness, and a new piston design isn’t going to change that. With the 7.3, what you see is what you get. I don’t think spending up to four times more on pistons compared to standard sets is worth it for this engine.

After seeing the most current 7.3 that was made about them on YouTube, I have also been thinking about these. Seeing as how aftermarket Porsche intake plenums use the dimples and clearly golf balls, I do think the technology is real. But because they are 4K, I am out of here.

I think they are real. Undoubtedly pricey, however they do seem to have lower egts, in my opinion. Quieter operation and more torque at the bottom end.

Are they legit? Yes. Are they worth it? In my opinion, no. The stock pistons last for hundreds of thousands of miles, and it is usually the rings that fail and cause compression leaks long before the piston itself cracks. If they could lower the cost to match OEM equivalents, it might be worth considering.
