Hello everyone, I have seen a lot of 2017-2019 F250s and F350s that I can afford, but my budget is primarily removing the 2020+ models. How desired is the 10 speed trans, I wonder? Though I am not really sure what I want, that’s what I desire in my head. In search of some criticism.
I am not sure about the technical details, but I think you would be okay with 6…
This is coming from someone with a 5-speed. Once it’s yours, anything feels normal. Just don’t overextend yourself if you don’t have to.
Over here, see Mr. Rich with his five gears. I suppose I have five speeds as well, but only one of them is reverse.
More gears can mean more problems. Every 10-speed F-150 I have driven has had poor shifting performance. I have a 6-speed in my 250, and it works perfectly. You might see slightly better fuel economy with the 10-speed, but I don’t think it’s worth it if it’s anything like the F-150s I have driven.
I used to own a 19 F150 with a crappy 10 speed. Traded it for a 20 F250 with 10 speed; the two were very different from one another. A class action lawsuit has been filed about the disastrous F150 10 Speed. The speed of the Superduty 10 is perfect.
It’s helpful to know that, as I have been considering trading in mine.
From what I have read, the 6R140 is incredibly robust and can handle over 1000 ft-lbs of torque, even with aggressive tunes and heavy towing. However, I haven’t personally driven one.
I did have the chance to drive a family friend’s gas-powered 2020 F-350 Raptor with the 10-speed transmission. It shifted very smoothly and accelerated impressively for a 1-ton truck. It’s still relatively new, so its long-term performance is yet to be fully proven, but so far, it has received a lot of positive feedback.
My friend who owns the 10 speed won’t stop talking about how amazing it is.
Whether fortunately or unfortunately, I have now raised my budget and am only considering models from 2020 and newer.
The 2019 F350 with 3.55 gears and a 6-speed doesn’t compare to my 2020 F350 with 4.10 gears and a 10-speed. I know the rear ends are different, but the 10-speed is on a whole different level.
I have an F250 from 2019. It drove really well. It was completely destroyed. I so took a test drive in a 2020 with 10 speed. Now, I have a 2020 with 10 speed. It is smooth and has an amazing feeling when you go on it. Not that the Six is bad, but it’s not as good as this.
