Car and Driver did a test on the 2023 Ford F-250, and it turned out to be the quickest diesel truck they’ve ever tested. Anyone surprised by these results?
5.5 seconds to 60 and 14.1 in the quarter mile. Pretty wild numbers for a truck.

It’s impressive for the size, but let’s be real, does it matter? It’s like being the best in a competition no one asked for.
@Rowan
I don’t get why people downplay it. Those numbers were sports car-levels in the early 2000s. It’s not ‘special ed’ performance.

I think they’re saying the metric is pointless for a diesel truck. Show me how it tows heavy loads; that’s what people care about.
@Blaine
Fair point. It does seem like towing is the bigger flex.

Yeah, I didn’t mean it wasn’t impressive. Just saying it’s not what trucks are built for.

Crazy numbers. It’s actually faster than a stick-shift MK8 GTI by almost a second.

That’s nuts. It’s just a bit slower than my 330i. I can’t imagine HD trucks are fun to push hard, though.
@Axel
It’s not terrible. I drove a 2018 F-250 from Virginia to Wisconsin with my dad. It held up surprisingly well for such a long trip.

They’re super stable on the highway, plenty of power for hills, and comfortable up front. Honestly better than you’d expect.

I drove a Dodge 3/4 ton once, and it could easily cruise at 85 without even trying. These trucks are no joke.
@Zan
Same here with the F-250. It could pull hard even at 90 mph. I drive a GTI normally, but this thing was impressive on highways.
@Axel
I had a tuned Duramax that would light up the tires if I pushed it. Surprising a WRX on the highway was always fun.

Burnouts are great, but I prefer cars that shine in the corners. Your Corvette must scratch that itch for you.
@Axel
Exactly. The Vette’s my go-to for fun on the road, but my real fun is my UTV. No limits out in the desert!

Reminds me of my old 6.2 Silverado. Not sports-car fast but felt surprisingly quick for a big truck. Similar times to mid-2000s muscle cars.
@Reagan
Same with my Yukon. Tuned it for E85, and it moves well for a massive SUV.
They didn’t just floor it for those numbers. They had to mess with the transmission, launch in 4Hi, and quickly shift back. Not exactly how people will drive daily.

Sounds like a bit of a staged test. Does it really reflect how it’ll perform in the real world?
